I don’t practice photography nearly as much as I’d like to, but it is a big part of my life, creatively and socially. My goal is to do a lot more photography and painting and sketching of the world around me. I love seeing nature and buildings and people (surprisingly, to me) in new and different ways, and I want to spend more and more time doing just that.

Photography has allowed me the great good fortune to travel to beautiful lands and meet wonderful people around the world. This multi-exposure image is made up of two different photos I took last year while in Bhutan, which is nestled between India, China, and Tibet in the Eastern Himalayan Mountains.

Buddhism is practiced by almost 75 percent of the population of Bhutan, and one of the images is of the Great Buddha Dordenma, a massive golden statue towering 169 feet against the deep blue mountain sky. The colorful prayer flags in the second image are printed with woodblocks on cloth and are hung on long poles or trees to ward off demons and to benefit the spirits of the dead. They are seen floating in the breeze everywhere you go.

I worry for the fate of the kind Bhutanese people, because tourism is literally the lifeblood of their nation. Hopefully, we will be able to visit their beautiful land once again, one day soon.
