My name is Joelle Khair and I am a current student at Arizona State University studying Environmental Engineering with a minor in Business. I was born in Portland, Oregon, but grew up in Phoenix, AZ.
I am a member of EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Services), Engineers without Borders, and Volunteers in Community Service. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, painting, hiking, swimming, and snowboarding.
Growing up, I spent my summers in Palestine, where my family is from, which is where I experienced firsthand the detrimental effects of water scarcity. Frequently, the water would shut off without warning and we’d have to hope for it to be available again. It was a constant struggle for me and the people in my community. This experience opened my eyes to how fragile something as important as water can be. I knew I wanted to work towards a change and choose my major in Environmental Engineering to pursue the field of water management. When I came across 33 Buckets, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to help a problem that I had similarly faced. I am excited to work with the communities in Peru while gaining valuable engineering and technical skills.
