In January of 2019, our student team members started an undergraduate engineering team within the EPICS (Engineering Projects In Community Service) program at Arizona State University. This year, the program launched the first ever EPICS Elite Pitch Competition in which the top 8 teams from the program have the chance to pitch their project in hopes of obtaining prototype funding.
Our student team, Water in Peru, designed and prototyped a low-cost disinfection system capable of remote monitoring using an autonomous residual chlorine sensor. The team was awarded first place and $1,500 to advance their prototype. The following summer, three of the the team’s student engineers traveled to Peru to collect more data for the design and assist 33 Buckets in launching clean water projects.
