My name is Rachel Clark and I am a student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee studying Environmental Engineering, and water systems and treatment engineering, graduating this May. I am from central Wisconsin, and now live in Madison, Wisconsin. I love working in the field and traveling to collaborate on projects and research.
In the spring of 2022, I participated in hydrological mapping and water chemistry research in Laguna Bacalar, Mexico, in the Yucatan Peninsula. In August 2022, I participated in a water resources management program through USIL and the GREEN Program in Cusco, Peru, which is how I was first introduced to 33 Buckets and their project work in the Occopata community. Most recently, in January 2023, I traveled with my university's Engineers Without Borders chapter to Viucalvitz, an indigenous Mayan community, in the Ixil Triangle of Guatemala, and assisted with the pipeline team and water quality assessment for a gravity-fed water system.
In my free time, I enjoy playing roller derby with the Madison team, hiking, canoe camping, and biking the many bike paths along the isthmus.Living in the Midwest, and near the Great Lakes, I realized I took freshwater resources for granted, and want to work to pursue a career in water restoration, treatment, and equitable access. The GREEN Program connected me to the Cusco region, as I worked with other students passionate about sustainable development on a river restoration design. I wanted to continue developing my relationship with Peru and its surrounding communities, and was excited to work with 33 Buckets and their project development in Cusco.
